Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between Physiotherapy and Myotherapy?
At Vermont Health and Lifestyle both our physiotherapists and myotherapists are highly qualified. All therapists have completed extensive study in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a vast range of injuries. All our practitioners are experienced in the field of muscular –skeletal treatments.

In generally myotherapists treat purely soft tissue and myofascial injuries/pain, whilst physiotherapist treat soft tissue injuries in conjunction with joint problems. In addition, physiotherapist are able diagnose and refer for diagnostic imaging.

Q: Do I need a GP referral?
No, anyone can see any of the practitioners, however in order to receive a Medicare rebate a care plan must be in place through your GP.

Q: How long does a consultation last?
Consultations vary from discipline to discipline.  Physiotherapy appointments are for 20-30 minutes.  Osteopathy appointments are available for 30, 45, 60 and 90 minutes. Myotherapy appointments are for 30, 45 or 60 minutes.  Dietitian initial appointments can be 45 to 60 minutes and review appointments 20 to 30 minutes.  Personal training sessions can be booked for 30 or 60 minute appointments.  Exercise classes usually go for 45 minutes.

Q: What is an Accredited Practising Dietitian?
A: An Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) has undertaken a university degree in dietetics, and has registered with the Dietitian's Association of Australia (DAA). APDs have to undertake regular professional development to ensure that they are up to date with the latest research, and have to comply with DAA's best practice guidelines and professional standards. APDs work closely with doctors and other health professionals, and are eligible to in work hospitals as well as in a range of settings including food industry, government and private practice. APDs are eligible to register with Medicare, so that their clients may receive rebates.

Q: Can I receive a rebate from seeing a practitioner?
A: If you have private health insurance with extras cover, you may be able to receive a rebate. We have HICAPs allowing you to claim on the spot and only pay a gap (unavailable for personal training or Pilates). Rebates from your private health insurance company are at the rate set by the insurance company

If you have a care plan from your GP you may be eligible for a rebate from Medicare for up to 5 allied health visits per year. This can apply to physiotherapy and dietitian consulatations only.  Medicare rebates around $53 of the cost of your consultation.

If you are a DVA gold card holder, you are eligible for dietetic or physiotherapy treatment at no cost with a referral from your GP. 


Q: Do we treat for workcover, TAC and DVA clients
A: Yes - if you have a claim number and approval for appropriate services our team are happy to help with your rehabilitation.
